4 speed close ratio gearbox

Decided to take some gearboxes out, known for not being so good, S50 and S65, combine with a little SS50 and some more modern parts, and create another 4-speed close ratio.
Not as close as the racing gearbox, but nice for a spare racing engine, or any other future build.

13-35
18-29
21-26
23-24

when installed in a racing engine, I might even replace 1st for a 14/33 or 14/32 with long shaft for mounting a clutch.

Seen in the picture, the special tool for shimming the gearbox and checking if all the gears line up correctly, a must when combining things like this, as only the 4th gear shift drum really worked for this setup.

engine stands

When working on engines, I used to use some wooden beams, but they always slid away.
then in the new workshop, I made an engine stand from some leftover bits of hardwood, and this worked so well for me, that I wanted some more, as I get more engines to work on at the same time now.

Today I made three more engine stands, with some slight differences, hardwood, so they don't damage what you're working on, but sturdy enough to be able to use an impact driver, and high enough to put a small oil catch can under it for draining engines.

In the picture demonstrated with some C110 engines and a (customer's) S90 engine

tachometers

Since I've built a new tacho for my 50 this year I got annoyed by the quality of the old prints for the tacho face. So I asked a friend who is good with graphics and has his own company in printing if he could help with new tacho faces, not only the CR110 / CR93 replica, but also an RSC and two different smiths faces, like the ATRC tacho's.
Today I mounted the first test print into an old housing to see what it would look like and how it would fit. Just a few tweaks and then it will be ready for a small production run.

also available will be:
smiths from 1 to 14
RSC from 3 to 15
CR110 CR93 replica 3 to 16

all to fit in original honda 1:7 tacho's as used on most models up to 500cc

another batch

And yet another batch of brand new vintage parts.
Including two of the newest project, a rear backing plate for 110mm Honda hubs, SLS but also in the future I plan on making a 2LS out of it, some preparations for that are already in the mold.
Planning the 2LS for my RSC90, will make the rear hub fit more with the 4LS front CB125RSC hub.

the line-up:
160mm front brake plate, Honda RC styled
110mm rear brake plate, Honda RC styled
CR110 footpegs
CR750 clutch perch
Honda RC styled brake pedal
JRP breather covers
S-monkey oil cooler adaptors
RSC engine cover, meant for a Honda 50, but going towards a 750

CB72 racer

Had one of my dad's CB72 racers out to testfit a CR93 fairing that I have for sale, someone wanted to know how it would fit a CB72.

Fits it quite nicely I would think.
And then we rearranged some of the workshop, what meant that another CB72 came out of a dark corner, making me want to start this project.

Not with original tank and (replica) CYB seat as seen here, but with something more like a CR72 tank, period correct and with a lot of home made castings and other replica parts, and even some originals. As I have collected some CYB72 stuff over the years.
I have, or can build many of the small parts, the tank will pretty much be the only part I really don't have any idea of where to find or how to built yet.

S90 trial

another great project from a friend, who is building an S90 trial bike.
And I will so lucky that I get to work on some little things for this bike also.

JRP covers for sale

I've now got 5 JRP points covers for 6v monkeybikes machined and ready, but I don't have that much engins myself, so some are for sale, if anybody is interested, give me an email.

I'm also working on the top cylinder head covers / breatherkit, but they are not ready yet. Will be available soon, and also as a set with the points cover.

2 more days of aluminium casting

Last week, I planned two days of casting and managed to create some more nice parts

some Honda MT125R top yokes, CR750 pedals and shift arms, CR110 pedals and pegs, also useful for other Honda racers like RC162, RC181, CR450, CR72 replicas and so on.

Another 160mm TLS front brake plate and a bunch of JRP engine covers for monkey engines, most of which are already reserved for friends.
Guess I'll have to do some more casting...

home made brakeplate

The latest casting project I've been working on for a while just came out of the molds.

It started as a big chunk of MDF slid over an old front axle.

Then adding some parts cut out of an old front brake plate, kindly donated to the casting process by a friend. And the beginnings of a scoop on the front.

Even though they are still loose parts, it is starting to look like something, and a lot more race inspired then an original 160mm brakeplate.

Smoothing and painting.

allmost ready for casting.

and the inside, made with original parts so the standard brake shoes will fit.

Broke the mold open, first impressions look good, fully formed, although it has some little flaws, but that is the charm of sandcasting.

Fully uncovered, it looks good, just like the original old racing brakes, but made to fit a normal 160mm Honda hub as found in many street bikes, and in my RSC90.

Now to harden it and then machining, what will probably take some time for this first one. But then I will have a plan for the next ones I might just make.

and some other stuff that was cast in the same session:

CR750, CR110 and JRP, more rare stuff from my hands, how funny is that.

CR750 pedals

about a week ago I did some casting for a friend
look at the nice bunch of parts laying there
copy's of Honda CR750 brakepedal, shiftlever and small change arms for the right-foot-shifter conversion.

Still finding it funny to have all these rare parts, usually made from "unobtainium" but these I just made myself.

anyone who has RSC style footpegs that I could copy?

another day of casting

Today I had another casting session, and this is the result:

Some of these are for me, some are for sale.

takes a lot of time to replicate existing parts, where it should be made with a two-part mold...officially. Probably triples the amount of work, but still it is nice to look at a bunch of rare new parts that a year ago, I thought I'd never be able to find. And now i'm making them myself.

Aluminium casting

My newest project, aluminium casting.
Because all the cool parts I want on my bikes were made from sandcast alloy back in the days, and now are not, or seldom for sale anymore.
Today was the first attempt to create a casting and it turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself.
Still have some work to do in the form making department, but this first result makes me want to do more.

Form ready for casting, what do you think it will be:

Just poored:

just pulled the object from the sand:

And machined to fit a (somewhat modified) SS50 ignition cover:

It is a bit higher then standard, but that is to be able to mount a 12v crankshaft. And because I made a simple form for a first casting attempt.
Now to refine the process and make a few more covers before I start doing something else, like rearsets, cilinderhead covers and brakeplates.

Ralph notified me of a nice event next weekend:
Caferacerdag
I might just go and have a look.
Let's hope the weather is nice.

CB50 caferacer

A bike I built, rode and then sold. Sometimes I miss it, it rode really nice, pretty comfortable, quick and it looked pretty cool.
Very retro 80's caferacer with magnesium wheels that just about everybody in the dutch 4-stroke community hated. I think they were just accustomed to the spoked wheels of the SS50's.

this is pretty much how I bought it and rode it for a while, the only modification by me were the sporty handlebars. It came with the giuliari seat.

Starting the transformation, this is a picture of one of the first complete mock-up's
When I bought the bike, it came with a lot of extra parts, including the tank with Bultaco stickers, I originally planned on riding it like this, just to piss people off with my "bultaco"

And the endresult, I changed the exhaust endcan later on, so the bike could breathe better, but I have no nice pictures of that.

some specs:
-ktm magnesium wheels
-CB750k1/6 front brake caliper and master
-50cc (still a legal moped)
-5speed xr80 gearbox
-CB50F camshaft
-16mm kei-hin carb
-slightly ported head and rounded valves
-adjustable clipons
-Ducati seat
-homebuilt rearsets with 10mm spanner as shifterpedal

bigbore stroker stuff

I've changed my plans.
I have an SS50 motorcycle (2 actually, but the second one isn't ready yet) and I collected a lot of original 50cc 5speed parts for them, like alloy cilinders and the heads with big fins and ports.
But now I've ridden with a 50cc and a 70cc engine on public roads and I just can't keep up with modern traffic. So I've fallen off my beliefs and started with the bigbore stuff. But still not the kitakkiewakkie-craft, just cheap aftermarket stuff.

I've now built a 110cc SS50 engine using a 52mm stroker crank and a 52mm piston.

specs:
- 52x52 110cc
- Old Type 70cc head with big fins (NOS), ported
- C70 camshaft
- advancing flywheel, 6V ignition
- 2plate clutch with alloy centre
- 5speed gearbox with modified first gear
- 20mm carb (until its broken in, then I might go bigger)

Today I built this engine under my SS50 motorcycle and took it for a testrun.
Nice torque, lots of power, in fact, more than the clutch can handle.
So at the end of the day I took the motor out again, will need stiffer clutch springs and also need to look at a small issue with the gearbox.
But this promises much good things, I allready have plans for a 125cc 54x54 engine.

And another crazy idea, a very much cc old style C90 with the 6V engine.
My S90 has shown these old things can be quick, now I'd like to use one of these old beasts to kick the crap out of some of those modern chinese 125cc+ bikes.
With the parts Ralph has, we could get upto 180cc, or just 170cc with the cranck he would sell to me. but still that is more then the china-crap.
Now just to find a C90 to start the project...... if someone in holland has something, you could let me know.

crappy sketch:

I won't be actively pursuing this project, as I still have a couple of other ones that are unfinished, but this would be a fun quick one.

C110 engine, but not my own

Been busy with a lot of things, but didn't take much pictures of my own projects,
so here is some of the C110 engine I have been rebuilding for Ralph

Ported head:

Everything glassbead blasted and some fresh paint on the cast steel parts:

Clutch pressure pin / oil guide stolen from my extra motor as the one that was in Ralph's motor was broken. Anyone has a spare?

Kijima ohc headcover in the lathe:

Now it is a cluch cover:

Modified finned tappet covers:

Also a Kijima ohc headcover as a pointscover:

Modifying a webco Z50 intake manifold for the C110 head:

With homebuilt heat isolator.

Taken the flange off, because there was no fitting carb for it, now a rubber flange off an SS50 manifold so we can fit any slant flange carb:

Top view:

It's almost done now, just some special oil line and some gaskets for the manifold and we can start thinking of starting it up and seeing how it runs.
